Announcements & News

The 2016-2017 PTSO Team thanks you for your support this past school year, congratulates the Class of 2017, and wishes everyone a healthy, happy summer break.

Have you ever been a new student or new family in a new school? It can be very challenging and stressful. We want to help the new families and their students transition smoothly into WT Woodson in 2017 – 2018. YOU CAN HELP US!! Please volunteer to be a “Welcoming Family” via Sign Up Genius here. Having a new friend before the school starts can make all the difference! What will you do? When a new student and family arrive at FCPS (Woodson), they will be paired with an existing family. The “Welcoming Family” will contact the new family (via phone or e-mail) and answer any questions they might have. It’s as simple as that. You might direct them to the appropriate sources for further information and tell them about school events or activities that may be of interest. You don’t need to be an expert. We will send you guidelines and information that you can use to help the new families. You may even want to meet them in person over an ice cream or coffee. FYI, information on the Welcome to Woodson programs is available here. Email the Welcome to Woodson Team with any questions at

2016 - 2017 WTW PTSO Grant Requests

Coordinator: Shawn Guth

The 2016 Fall and 2017 Spring Grant Programs have concluded. Thanks to the generous support of Woodson families and the Administration, the W.T. Woodson PTSO awarded just over $10,000 to support our partners: teachers, staff, clubs and WTW administration.

WTW PTSO GRANTS support projects, activities, and programs for students and teachers. We look forward to partnering with you again in 2017-2018.

Student Driver Car Magnets

Coordinator: Cathy Swanton

Did you know? Virginia requires students to complete 45 hours of behind-the-wheel driving with a “qualified” driver before they can obtain a license. For your peace of mind and for those around you: Woodson’s PTSO offers highly visible yellow & black “STUDENT DRIVER” car magnets to post on all sides (driver’s door, passenger door, front & rear) of the vehicle your student drives. You’ll appreciate the added awareness of other drivers to your student’s driving trials and tribulations. You can find these popular car magnets to purchase at major school events or in the Woodson front office.

Cost: $8 each or 3 for $20  (Compare to the online price of $14.95 each, plus shipping)

You may order and pay online at or by contacting Cathy Swanton at Get them now so you are prepared for when your student starts driving!

Engraved Bricks

Coordinator: Linda Vasquez

The Woodson PTSO sells engraved bricks to raise money to help fund various beautification projects at the school. The brick courtyard in front of the School, between the main entrance and the auditorium, still has plenty of room for bricks for you to remember your special student.

Individual brick cost: $100

Engraved bricks will be intermixed with regular paver bricks. And, they make great graduation presents for your Seniors!
